1. Regular Servicing.
Just like an active automobile requires regular engine servicing, the same goes for an HVAC system, there should be a periodic pattern in which a technician goes to its components to ensure they work at optimal capacity.
Cleaning will be done, and some necessary spare parts that need to be changed should be changed.
2. Change Air Filter Every Other Month.
Some maintenance steps you can take don’t require calling a technician or using tools. And one of them is changing the filter. The filter is meant to gather dust and unwanted particles while cooling or heating.
Changing the filter every other month will make the HVAC work with ease without stress because it is almost free of dust.
It’s placing a net door in your house, and it gathers dust. Air flow into the house won’t stop, but it will be reduced.
3. Constant Check Of Refrigerant Lines.
Every HVAC owner should carry out routine checks on the refrigerant lines that connect the HVAC to the house.
Check regularly if it is leaking as a leakage might not be known until observed. Leakage won’t give the house the appropriate temperature.
So, it’s advisable to check the refrigerant lines at least monthly.
4. Balancing The HVAC Unit.
Having the HVAC unit outside the house means anything can happen to it. And the HVAC unit is meant to be balanced on the bare floor at all times.
Having the unit not well balanced might alter the positioning of some internal parts.
Constantly check your unit to ensure it is purely on the ground, and nothing is under it, causing it to tilt or create an imbalance.
5. Clean Out Build Ups And Clogs.
Sometimes, some clogs gather in the system and might affect its performance. You require a cup of water mixed with washing bleach to handle this.
The above mixture is then poured into the condenser drain, which immediately dissolves any clogging in the system and keeps everything clear.
This mixture can be applied once a year.
6. Check For Unusual Noise.
Always pay attention to the sound of your unit. Be familiar with its normal sound right from the time of installation.
Once the sound changes or it gets noisier while working. Then call a technician as it might be a sign of a severe internal fault.
7. Don’t Place Objects Or Sit On It.
The HVAC Unit is produced to regulate the temperature in the home, and that’s what it’s meant to be used for.
But having it outside the home and having a rectangular shape that easily makes people prone to sitting down on it or placing heavy objects on it.
This should be discouraged as it could dent the panel and even affect some of its internal parts.
Also, ensure that kids are kept away from the unit as the spinning of the fan blade when working could attract them to drop objects inside the unit while working, which could damage or dent the blade.
8. Look Out For Strange Odors.
HVAC is a cooling and heating unit system not manufactured to produce a smell when it’s working.
So, be sensitive to any strange odor coming from it that is not normal. A strange odor could indicate a burning cable or a faulty part. Once this is observed the unit should be turned off immediately and you contact your HVAC technician.
Also ensure not to turn on the unit whenever there is high voltage or low current as it could have a damaging electrical effect on the system unit.
