Nearly one-third of people in Canada say they suffer from back pain that causes limitations to their daily activities.
Are you suffering from back pain? Are you trying to figure out what’s causing it and how to fix it?
Let’s go through the different types of back pain.
Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain is more common than other types of back pain. One simple cause of lower back pain is muscle sprains. If your pain is new, it may simply be a sprain or a strain, and with some time and rest your back pain may resolve itself.
But, there are more serious things that can cause pain in your lower back, too. A compression fracture can be very serious and can cause a great deal of pain. If you have sudden pain and suspect a fracture in your back, you’ll want to go to emergency medical services in your area as soon as possible.
As you get older, you may face even more health problems that might explain, “why does my back hurt?” Osteoporosis is common in women and can result in pain problems in your back.
And, arthritis can cause problems as you get older, and not just for your back. Most of the bones in your body can be negatively impacted by arthritis.
Upper Back Pain
Pain in your upper back can come from a lot of different sources. If you spend a lot of time looking at screens, you may get upper back pain from staring down at your phone or your computer for too long.
This type of pain can often be resolved by a chiropractor. You can look here for more info.
Upper back pain can also be caused by injury. If your back pain flares up after an accident, or if you often participate in sports, you should go to your doctor and see about your back pain treatment options.
If you lift heavy objects as a regular part of your job, having a bad lifting technique can result in problems for your back. So, make sure you do research on proper lifting techniques to reduce strain on your back.
People can sometimes suffer from infections in their back, too. It’s important to be aware of any symptoms beyond back pain that could indicate an infection since infections can spread if they’re not treated quickly. Some signs of infection you need to watch out for include running a fever, unrelenting back pain, an unpleasant smell coming from the infection site, warmth or redness coming from the site of infection, and stiffness.
