The television series Designated Survivor season 1 features Kiefer Sutherland in a political drama series created by David Guggenheim. As the series begins, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Tom Kirkman (Sutherland) is sworn in as President of the United States after a bomb destroys his predecessors and everyone else following him during the State of the Union Address. In 2016, the series premiered for the first time, and was renewed for a second season, which premiered on September 27, 2017.
ABC premiered Designated Survivor season 1 on September 21, 2016, and the show ended on May 17, 2017. The season was ordered to 21 episodes eight days after its premiere, on September 29, 2016.
